THE ALMA J. BROWN EDUCATIONAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

Supporting Education, Creativity, Family, and Opportunity
The Alma J. Brown Educational Arts Scholarship was established to support students pursuing degrees and careers in education, liberal arts, humanities, and related disciplines.
The scholarship is especially intended to recognize individuals who are working to improve their lives and the lives of their families through education.
Eligible Fields of Study
Applicants may pursue qualifying programs including:
- Elementary Education
- Secondary Education
- Early Childhood Education
- Special Education
- Educational Leadership
- English
- History
- Communications
- Liberal Arts
- Humanities
- Social Sciences
- Fine Arts
- Performing Arts
- Other related education or liberal arts disciplines
Who May Apply
Applicants should:
- Be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college, university, community college, or approved educational program.
- Be pursuing an eligible education, liberal arts, humanities, or related degree or credential.
- Demonstrate commitment to educational achievement and personal advancement.
- Demonstrate financial need, community involvement, leadership, perseverance, or other qualities consistent with the purpose of the scholarship.
Scholarship Preferences
When evaluating otherwise qualified applicants, additional consideration may be given to:
- Single parents, including single mothers, who are pursuing higher education while supporting a family.
- Students demonstrating financial need.
- First-generation college students.
- Students preparing for careers in education or community service.
- Students who have overcome significant personal, family, or economic challenges.
These preferences are considered as part of the overall scholarship review and do not automatically determine the recipient.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Scholarship amounts may vary based on available Foundation funding, donor support, the number of qualified applicants, and the educational needs of selected recipients.
Awards may be made directly to the student, educational institution, or approved educational provider depending upon the nature of the award and applicable Foundation policies.
Scholarships may support expenses including:
- Tuition and academic fees
- Textbooks
- Required course materials
- Technology and educational equipment
- Certification or examination fees
- Other approved education-related expenses
HOW RECIPIENTS ARE SELECTED
ECX seeks students whose applications demonstrate a combination of:
- Educational goals
- Commitment to completing their program
- Financial need
- Leadership
- Community involvement
- Personal achievement
- Perseverance
- Career aspirations
- Alignment with the purpose of the individual scholarship
Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an award.
Final scholarship decisions are made by the ECX East Coast Music & Technology Foundation or its designated scholarship review committee.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants may be asked to provide:
- A completed ECX Scholarship Application
- Proof of enrollment or acceptance
- Current school or college information
- Intended major or field of study
- A brief personal statement
- A description of career goals
- Information regarding community service, extracurricular activities, athletics, employment, or leadership
- Financial need information when applicable
- Letters of recommendation when requested
Additional requirements may be established for individual scholarship cycles.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Applicants should be prepared to answer questions such as:
What are your educational and career goals, what challenges have you overcome, and how would receiving an ECX scholarship help you achieve those goals?
ECX encourages applicants to tell their story and explain not only where they want to go, but what motivates them to get there.
SUPPORT AN ECX SCHOLAR
Businesses, individuals, alumni, community organizations, and philanthropic partners are invited to help ECX expand these scholarship opportunities.
Your support can help a student purchase textbooks, pay tuition, obtain essential technology, complete a certification, remain enrolled in school, or take another important step toward a successful career.

General contributions to the ECX Scholarship Program may also be used to expand future educational assistance opportunities.
